Cher and Sunny... Blonde Aguilera

Cher, Oscar-winning diva is returning to the big screen after 11 years and she's teaming up with superstar singer Christina Aguilera in the new movie "Burlesque."

The movie is a tale of a talented singer from a small town Iowa, Ali (Aguilera) who buys a one-way ticket to Los Angeles to make her singing dreams come true. She finds herself struggling (typical) and finds herself as a waitress of a burlesque club ran and owned by retired dancer, Tess (Cher). The film also stars, Stanley Tucci, who plays the clubs Stage manager.

Yeah, yeah can you say a remake of "A Star is Born"? The film may be following a familiar and predictable plot but movie goers aren't necessarily going to watch this film for the "enticing", and I say that loosely, story line. Fans will no doubt be curious to see if Christina Aguilera has the "skills" to make it as an actress (this will be her first major acting gig since her "Mickey Mouse Club" days).

Critics are skeptical as many "singer-turned-actresses" have also followed this path and, may I say, successfully failed. Take Mariah Carey in Glitter and Britney Spears in Crossroads. Yeah, there is only a few who can be a double threat and some... should just stick to what they are good at.

However, as for Cher, who won a Best Actress Oscar for her work in 1987's "Moonstruck," has other standards. Fans will be crossing their fingers that this pop diva, doesn't disappoint. Her last big role was in the 1999 drama "Tea With Mussolini." Since then, she's kept a low Hollywood profile and this year, her next "big" project will be another lowbrow comedy, "The Drop-Out," in which she'll star alongside Johnny Knoxville as his much-older love interest.

We can't blame the one named superstar. She has been pretty distracted from her once-substantial acting career by her even more lucrative musical pursuits. Since 2008, she's been contracted in a three year residency and a 200+ show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, a gig that will pay her a reported $60 million. Who can blame her?

"Burlesque" also stars Kristen Bell, Alan Cumming, and Eric Dane. It's scheduled to hit theaters on November 27th.
