Emmazing at the Emmys!

I may be a day or 2 late (Fashion Bloggers usually have this list up within 30 minutes of the Red Carpet arrivals) but it's never TOO LATE to give in my 2 cents!

The Emmy Awards arrivals, to me, is more intense than who won what award (honest truth). As a devoted Fashion Expert, I don't really care to watch who won the 'Best Supporting Actor in a 10 minute walk on scene'.

This year at the Emmys (Sunday August 29th at Nokia Live), the bling was not left unnoticed. Jewelery didn't take center stage on the wrists of the talented individuals, but instead the crystals were oozing from the Stars' hair down to their feet.

Here is my list on the Best and Worst Dressed of the evening.

The HIT-List Best Dressed

Claire Danes

Claire dazzled the Red Carpet in class with a beautiful champagne Armani Prive gown covered in Swarovski Crystals. She won an Emmy for her role as Temple Grandin in the HBO production 'Temple Grandin.'

She looked flawless, and the color complimented her skin and sun kissed hair. She took the right approach by skipping out on the jewelery, as to not overdo and clash with her dress.

January Jones

I'm probably going to get a lot of criticism for this choice, but I absolutely loved it! This was an incredible color and cut for this Ms. Jones.

The adorable Mad-Men star did not disappoint me on the carpet. This electric-blue, avant garde Versace number was just the right hit. I loved the simplicity in her hair and minimal jewelery choice. However, I would have opted for a nude pair of pumps verses her black, bold version.

Lea Michele

This 24 year old Glee starlet, looked RADIANT in this navy, curve hugging mermaid Oscar de La Renta gown.

Though she didn't nab an award, she definitely represented the cast very well.

Best ALMOST Dressed Winner

Kim Kardashian

I SOOOO wanted to put Ms. Kardashian on the Best Dressed list but, I am a bit skeptical on her dress.

She is so full on top, that I feel the heaviness of her white Marchessa goddess gown wasn't the best choice. The dress is divine and the color looks flawless on her, but I do wish she chose another gown. Her Lorraine Schwartz cuff and her classy hair and make up do save her in this look.

Now for the LIST you've been waiting for...

The BLACK-List

Anna Paquin

First, let me congratulate Anna on her marriage (she wed True Blood co-star, Stephen Moyer, last week), this petite newly wed took a whole new approach on the red carpet.

She wore a unflattering gold armor-esque gown, by late designer Alexander McQueen.

I hate to put such a brilliant designer on this list but the satin number and harsh black shoes just didn't cut it. The star herself looks a bit miserable in this Matador inspired gown.

Christina Hendricks

Sex pot Christina Hendricks is always lovely, but this lavender Zac Posen gown is not. The pale color against her pale skin just washes her out. On top of that her red hair just clashes with the lavender feathered sleeved dress.

This dress doesn't help her curvy body at all. Please stick to your tight and fitted Mad Men costumes Christina, we love that look on you.

Tina Fey

Tina Fey's isn't always on the best dressed list but at least she has a sense of humor... right?

Once again I am putting an incredible designer on the Black-List, I should be ashamed. But, this look just doesn't make sense.

She worse a fitted (I give her that) Oscar de La Renta two-tone gown that should have stayed in hiding. The fit is incredible and the print is okay but black tulle on top of a white satin dress? No thank you Tina.

Machete or Not?

Jessica Alba looked radiant (as always) last night, Wednesday August 25th, at the LA Premiere of Machete.

Her black and metallic gold and chevron-print Balmain mini and incredible peep-toe Louboutin booties were a definite A+. Not only on the red carpet but also as today's "The HIT-List" winner.

Her subtle and sexy tousled locks and simple but statement making jewelery were just the right looks to finish the outfit.

Ms. Alba is definitely "ONE HOT MAMA!"

What do you think? Did Jessica Alba deserve the Best Dressed "HIT-List" award?

Not One but Drew?!

Repeat offender or Red Carpet Rebound? Drew Barrymore who last week "tried" to conquer 4 trends, did well this week at her Los Angeles premiere, with 2 of the 4 trends in a whole new (perfect) way.

She walked the red carpet with grace in a beautiful Catherine Malandrino gown, the same, but paired well, studded Balmain belt, as well as the same, but on point, Yves St. Laurent "Trib Two" platform pumps.

This time she killed it with a beautifully done dewy and natural look in her makeup and the ombré highlighted hair looked flawless in this soft [brushed] version of last weeks look.

This image of Drew definitely deserves to win this weeks

Miss Universe? OR Miss Out of This World?

Miss Universe is essentially about who represents they're country in the most glamorous way, with, of course the best answers. It is an annual international beauty contest that is one of the most publicized and viewed contests in the world. This year they totaled over 600 million viewers.
I don't watch this pageants for a specific "look" and I don't root for one because I'm fond of where she is from. I look at poise, style, confidence, classiness and of course what they wore.

For one portion of the contest, the contestants of the Miss Universe Pageant were intended to celebrate the heritage of their country (from which they represent).
These girls obviously took an "avant-garde" interpretation of the diversity and symbolization of their countries in a whole new direction. Either that or each contestant teamed up with a contestant on Project Runway and Hair Battle Spectacular and created a one of a kind look inspired by Lady Gaga.

I have chosen 10 Looks to be on this month's "BLACK-List!"

What do you think of these looks? Do they represent the countries correctly or did they not?

FNO = Fabulous Number One

Not only does FNO stand for my version of Chanel's (should be) tagline, but it ACTUALLY stands for Fashion's Night Out. New York is not only celebrating the anticipated FNO on September 10th but also the re-opening of Chanel's Peter Marino renovated SoHo store.

How else can you celebrate such a buzz, without launching a limited edition series of nail lacquers, that have been made to be "universally flattering for all skin tones"?

Introducing to the web, "Les Khakis de Chanel" polishes masterminded by Chanel Beauté creative head, Peter Philips.

The 3 polishes come in "Khaki Brun, an earthy gray-brown; Khaki Rose, a muted, dusty terra-cotta and Khaki Vert, a mossy green. The colors will be sold separately and available at select Chanel boutiques nationwide and select department stores.

Drew Barry-more or less?

Drew Barrymore, the forever wild child and risk taker took a few "trendy" risks last night, Thursday August 19th, 2010 at her and beau, Justin Long's London premiere of Going the Distance.

She walked the red carpet, in not 1 BUT 4 trendy looks for this season.

Barrymore wore a beautiful and figure flattering, olive green Alexander McQueen dress with Trend #1 a Studded Balmain belt, paired with Trend #2, Nude and suede, "trib two" YSL platforms.

The look from the neck down was a thumbs up. However Trend #3, the ombré highlights (the illusion of hair fading from dark to light), made famous by The City's, Whitney Port was not so "attractive" with her crimp-y and partially braided hair style, making that Trend #4.

Drew did stay close to home, with her signature raspberry lips, which added just the right touch to her effortlessly made, "Welcome Fall" look.
I love her fearlessness, but I don't know if combining trends was the best idea. What do you think? Does this look belong on the HIT-List or the BLACK-List?

The film opens in theaters September 3, 2010.

J. Holmes?

Katie Holmes is the new face of the Fall J.Crew Catalog. Not just her, of course, but J.Crew is also using Holmes' costars from her new drama, that she's executive produced, The Romantics, which is fitting seeing that J.Crew is a marketing partner for the film as well.

In this look (on top), featured with costar Josh Duhamel, Holmes, is wearing a gold leaf and sequined trouser paired with a denim button-down men's shirt and an edgy vest. She says the look is "a little more tomboy, a little Diane Keaton."

This isn't the first time Katie Holmes has promoted the brand. Back in 1998 her and the Dawson's Creek stars, James Van Der Bleek, Michelle Williams and Joshua Jackson, not only wore J.Crew on the show but also graced J.Crew's catalogs twice.

As for the film out September 10th, 2010, is about a group of friends that reunite for a wedding. "The movie takes place on the East Coast during the fall," she says. "The look of the movie goes well with the feel of J.Crew."

Check out the trailer for the film below.

The movie also stars: Anna Paquin, Elijah Wood, Malin Akerman, Adam Brody, Jeremy Strong, Rebecca Lawrence and Candice Bergen.

Hillary Duff Says "I DENTIST?!"

The Disney Alum (Hillary Duff) and NHL star (Mike Comrie) were married in a lavish and romantic "Dream Wedding" with 100 guests in attendance held at a private 1920s mansion in Santa Barbara, California on August 15th, 2010.

Before the nuptials, however, Duff, 22, had to make a quick visit to the DENTIST!!... hmm. The blushing bride couldn't walk down the aisle with a CHIPPED TOOTH!!! Thank goodness for her wedding planner, Mindy Weiss, who spared no detail in making the ceremony and garden party perfect, arranged a last minute fix at the Dentist's office.

Only OK! Magazine has the gallery of exquisite images (since they were among the 100 guests in attendance) but I have the important stuff... THE DETAILS!! (aka The Dress!)

Hillary wore a custom dress from wedding guru herself, Vera Wang. The dress was a beautiful cream colored gorgeous and figure flattering strapless dress with a very classic floor length veil. Her jewelery was simple yet elegant diamond drop earrings and a beautiful diamond bracelet.

Hillary claims she was "never a bridezilla," met Comrie, 29, at the vacation home of a mutual friend in Idaho back in 2007.

The details of their 8 pm wedding included Magnolia leaves to represent Hillary's Texas roots and even served profiterole ice cream sandwiches with the cake. How good does that sound? YUM.

With sister Haylie, as maid of honor said of the night, "The look on her face (Hillary) during the vows was something I'll always remember."

WET 101

The "Wet Look" is very much "IN" for the WoodWood line, based in Copenhagen. WoodWood, is an avant-garde, "hipster" European street-wear line, launched in 2002.

I don't know if I would be okay with walking around being drenched from head to toe, but the "wet look" in hair, very popular in the '90s, is slowly coming back for an encore.

To accomplish this look, you only need 1 product to make the style last all day (and no you don't need to carry a squirt bottle to re-wet the hair). First let me introduce you to a product on "The HIT-List" Blacklist!

Sebastian Wet!

Sebastian Wet is described as a liquid gel that drenches hairs fiber, creating a sleek "just came in from out of the rain" look.

If for some ODD reason you find this look to be what you're looking for, you can purchase this online as it has been discontinued (surprise, surprise). If this is NOT what you're aiming for try something a bit more "appropriate", or refined.

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray! $26

Enter the all mighty and amazing, B&B Surf Spray! Very much like ANY product the amazing Bumble and Bumble creates, this product is incredible. Only obvious it would be featured on "The HIT-List" Shopping List!

Keep the Summer ALIVE! even through Fall with Surf Spray. It gives your hair a sexy, wind-styled texture, similar to what you get after an ocean swim (without the wet look).

Santa Monica is Blooming!

Last night (August 5th) I was privileged enough (along with many others) to attend, the Night before the Big Opening Day of Santa Monica's much anticipated 3rd St. Bloomingdale's location.

Bloomingdale’s in the new Santa Monica Place has really gone ALL out, with an emphasis in ALL. The new Bloomingdale's stands where the old Macy’s stood previously. They spent a pretty penny to recreate a modern yet glamorous twist on the big department store. An estimated $265 million dollars to be exact.

Bloomies had invited some press and VIP’s to come and shop early on Thursday the 5th with the chance to win a thousand dollar shopping spree, (I didn't win unfortunately but everyone who attended received $25 gift cards... which I used in a heart beat). They sure know how to make their VIP's feel special, they sent out giftbags to the homes and offices on Wednesday August 4th, with flip flops, and incentives to come and shop with discount cards.

The store is a Fashion Vixen's heaven. I almost had 10 heart attacks simultaneously. Each wing of the location was pouring with taste, glamour and style, you couldn't help but want to touch everything. From their inviting "red carpet-esque" entrance to their beautiful done-up associates. Each level had a special pizazz.

The B-Style Bar, is any (ME, of course) Stylist heaven. Racks filled with beautiful garments, shoes and accessories to make over any customer in a second, that featured dressing room cocoons that can be moved around the space. They also had moving tracks that carried styled mannequins above the heads of customers, showcasing the newest designer looks and trends. Not to forget, the wall of sunglasses that seemed endless, showcased each pair in their own space with a lighted backdrop.

Let's not forget Bloomingdale's famous frozen yogurt “Forty Carrots” will be sold as well, in six different flavors, more than at any other store.

Bloomingdale's has definitely one upped other department stores, you couldn't help but feel powerful stepping into their doors.

Opening is TODAY- Friday, August 6th, 10am-9pm!

Cher and Sunny... Blonde Aguilera

Cher, Oscar-winning diva is returning to the big screen after 11 years and she's teaming up with superstar singer Christina Aguilera in the new movie "Burlesque."

The movie is a tale of a talented singer from a small town Iowa, Ali (Aguilera) who buys a one-way ticket to Los Angeles to make her singing dreams come true. She finds herself struggling (typical) and finds herself as a waitress of a burlesque club ran and owned by retired dancer, Tess (Cher). The film also stars, Stanley Tucci, who plays the clubs Stage manager.

Yeah, yeah can you say a remake of "A Star is Born"? The film may be following a familiar and predictable plot but movie goers aren't necessarily going to watch this film for the "enticing", and I say that loosely, story line. Fans will no doubt be curious to see if Christina Aguilera has the "skills" to make it as an actress (this will be her first major acting gig since her "Mickey Mouse Club" days).

Critics are skeptical as many "singer-turned-actresses" have also followed this path and, may I say, successfully failed. Take Mariah Carey in Glitter and Britney Spears in Crossroads. Yeah, there is only a few who can be a double threat and some... should just stick to what they are good at.

However, as for Cher, who won a Best Actress Oscar for her work in 1987's "Moonstruck," has other standards. Fans will be crossing their fingers that this pop diva, doesn't disappoint. Her last big role was in the 1999 drama "Tea With Mussolini." Since then, she's kept a low Hollywood profile and this year, her next "big" project will be another lowbrow comedy, "The Drop-Out," in which she'll star alongside Johnny Knoxville as his much-older love interest.

We can't blame the one named superstar. She has been pretty distracted from her once-substantial acting career by her even more lucrative musical pursuits. Since 2008, she's been contracted in a three year residency and a 200+ show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, a gig that will pay her a reported $60 million. Who can blame her?

"Burlesque" also stars Kristen Bell, Alan Cumming, and Eric Dane. It's scheduled to hit theaters on November 27th.

Streisand VS. Aniston?

Well well well... Ms. Aniston has made 'The Hit List' once again. The Friends alum, who has movie after movie this year along with her new self named Parfum, has dressed up like the 68-year-old Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Tony-winning MEGASTAR, Barbra Streisand for the September issue of Harper's Bazaar.

Jennifer wore outfits inspired by Streisand's wardrobe from Funny Girl and What's Up, Doc. Not only was her hair, makeup and style on point but Aniston, 41, posed with her idol's signature long fingernails. She was quoted saying, "Perfectly manicured, thoroughly immodest fingernails. The nails were like, There she is!"

During the Bazaar photoshoot, Aniston listened to singer's 1964 song, "People" in repeat.

So why Barbra? Well, not that Barbra herself, would be appearing in any movies or releasing any albums soon, but Streisand has forever been Jennifer's idol.

Jennifer first met Streisand, at a New Year's party a few years ago. "I've loved her since I was a kid, and all of a sudden there she is, and she's just like someone you've always known," Jennifer says. "You know when you meet people you idolize and then you walk away from the conversation thinking, 'Well, that was a disappointment; they were kinder and more fabulous in my mind'? Well, she was wonderful, and you could talk to her about anything."

If you ask me, Jennifer resembles a younger Streisand, well of course, similar in some characteristics. She is however missing one key feature. As Barbra commented on the shoot she also would agree with me, "I was very flattered that Jennifer Aniston chose to interpret my style with the photos in Harper's Bazaar. She's a delightful person, and I think she did a wonderful job. If only she had a bump on her nose."

In the September issue out this week, Jennifer said Of her Bazaar shoot, "I have no idea what people are going to think about it. Everybody has an opinion; it's just what people love to have. But that's okay. Art is so subjective, and people can react however they want."

"Barbra inspires me because there isn't anything she hasn't done that she wanted to do, especially as a female in the time when her generation was prime. She's a true renaissance woman."

Harper's loved Jennifer Aniston so much and they've countlessly said that she was a "beautiful woman and a pleasure to work with," that they've allowed Jennifer to chose whatever she wanted to create for the theme of this issue. They wanted to represent Ms. Aniston as who she truly is. Just another down to earth woman.
