Giving, Getting or BOTH?

They say Giving is better than Getting and I absolutely agree. Giving is so rewarding that sometimes you feel as though you've also received something in the process.

This year during the holidays let's do something even better. Let's Give and Give again.

Here are the TOP Gifts you can give to friends, family and co-workers, while ALSO giving to those in need.

WOMEN

Scarves are the essential fashion item to have this season, and available in 21 colors, how can you go wrong? These Mekong Blue scarves are hand-knit by the Women of Cambodia's Stung Treng Women's Development Center. The work helps these women earn "a fair wage, escape a fate in the violent sex trade, learn workplace skills and gain educational opportunities for their families." $50 each.

Candles are always something perfect as a gift or just for yourself. These gorgeous angel votive holders are made from sheet metal in the Croix des Bouquets tradition of Haitian artisans. Each sale supports the work of the designer and his family. Large Votive $42 and Medium Votive $24 (small, is a card holder).

Do you have a friend that has every purse, clutch and bag imaginable? Well look no further and get her another clutch to add to her growing collection. Check out the pretty, graphic baguette clutch, these aren't your average "bags"... no pun intended.

These clutches are made from 100% recycled DORITOS® tortilla chips bags. The Baguette Clutch, is only $49 each, and similar ones were featured in the movie, "Sex and the City." Each recycled clutch purchased, provides jobs for 40 artisan women in Peru.

This delicate necklace repeats various sayings in braille (like "hug" and "kiss") and benefits the American Foundation for the Blind. $140 + free shipping. This beautiful necklace speaks for itself.

We are all familiar with MAC Cosmetics, and who are we fooling? We even buy these lipsticks for ourselves.

"Established in 1994 to support men, women and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS globally, VIVA GLAM I, II, III, IV, V and VI, were launched as continuous shades and have achieved tremendous success over the years. " $14.50 each, available at every MAC Boutique and counter.

Pair those scarves with the perfect accessory. Fingerless gloves! "These gloves from Global Goods Partners are made from alpaca and are dyed with all-natural dyes by women in Bolivia who receive a fair wage plus additional educational and advancement opportunities." $35 each.

What about those active women on your list? Yoga has become a popular exercise for the mind, body and soul and NOW you can carry around your mats with style! Whether going to the gym, park or home. The yoga bag from Global Girlfriend are made from durable wax-cloth by women in Uganda who directly benefit from each sale. $36.00 each.

How about some sophisticated Shawls? These amazing ones were made by the Asociacion de Artesanos Andinos in Bolivia. The alpaca scarves are lightweight and incredibly warm, and they help pay a living wage and support health and literacy projects. $88 each and come in 4 colors!

MEN

Men aren't always easy to shop for, ladies, we know that's true. How about getting them something they need or use all the time?

Beats Solo HD headphones designed by Dr. Dre are not only great for listening to your music but they're also connected with the (RED) program. A portion of the purchase price is dedicated to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa. $229

)

CO-WORKERS

These treats are the perfect gift for Co-workers. You can't get them something too personal or too pricey. So cookies and chocolate, as always, have come to the rescue.

EVERYONE
Now this is where you can have fun with the gifts you're giving. Fun and universal items with a good cause.

TOMS shoes , have a simple premise: Buy a pair for yourself (or for a friend), and second pair will go to a child in need.

"Children in developing countries often aren't allowed into school without shoes, so this purchase could help a child get an education. The shoes work well as around-town slip-ons or even as a cool slipper substitute."

The simple designs and wide variety of colors make these shoes suitable for just about anyone on your list. Prices range from $44 and up.

Jessica Simpson: Singer or Fashion Mogul?

When you think of Jessica Simpson, what's the first thing to pop in your head? Singer? Actress? Date-oholic? (okay, yeah, that one should have been first) or Mega Fashion Empire?

Besides being Tabloid Queen with her infamous boyfriends, dinner dates and even, to this date, ex husband Nick Lachey. Jessica Simpson has made her name famous in other publications. Que in, WWD (Women's Wear Daily), a BIBLE to the fashion industry, quoted Jessica Simpson's brand to be well worth $100 million, and that's in 2010 alone!

Her self named brand, which ranges from shoes, bags, jeans and perfume and soon to be Sportswear (to launch Fall 2011) has surpassed any other projects this Texas breed beauty has accomplished.

We all know she has the voice but her most recent musical venture, "Happy Christmas" hit the billboard charts in the low 100's (Number 123, to be exact). As well as her unsuccessful movies, that have grossed well under $10,000 (Her last film, "Blonde Ambition" grossed $6,422).

Yeah she might be making a penny here and there with the tabloid but that's irrelevant to her success. Unlike other "celebrities" (Paris Hilton), this working woman doesn't need rumor mills making her name well known. This hot blonde has a knack for fashion and an empire, most celebs would wish for.

WWW= Winter WHITE Wonderland

This winter you may think bright colors are on their way in, and soft neutrals are being pushed into the background... well think again because WHITE is HOT and SO IN!

Today we have 2 WINNERS on 'The HIT-List"!

Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron.

Both leading and extremely lovely ladies are wearing the ever classy, Versace. Angelina takes the longer gown approach, while showing off her most sexy assets, and Charlize keeps it simple in a form fitting cocktail number, still maintaining her sexy yet sophisticated persona.

What do you think readers?

Mellow Yellow

Is the new black... YELLOW?

Last night, the ever trend starting Gwen Stefani, wore a vibrant yellow gown to The Center Honors in D.C.

Fans say she was "channeling old Hollywood elegance," however, I would have to disagree. The look, washed the platinum blond beauty out. The dress reminded me of a vintage wedding gown that has been hit by the sun for far too long.

Eva Mendes
, was bright as the sun in this asymmetric beaded silk gown. The one shoulder was just the right amount of sexy to the Marrakesh Film festival. She didn't overdue it and kept it simple with an orange cocktail ring.

What do you think? Who deserves to be on "The HIT-List" and who should be on the "The Black-list"?

BERRY Incredible!!

Halle Berry looked fabulous Saturday, October 16th, 2010, even if it were misty in Los Angeles, at the Greek Theatre in honor of Spike TV's Scream Awards.

She may have missed posing for photogs on the red carpet, but she wowed the audience when she hit the stage to present director, Christopher Nolan with the Ultimate Scream Award.

She wore a beautiful, figure hugging, gold pailette-covered, Reem Acra dress paired with impressive 6 inch, matching metallic peep-toe Christian Louboutin pumps and exquisite Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

There should have been a 'Most Breathtaking Award', because Halle would have taken that home, with no doubt.

What do you think? Did Halle Berry deserve 'The HIT-List' Award or should she have come into 2nd place with Emma Roberts at 1st?

Sugar and Lace

Lauren Conrad, 24, who is well known as the former "Hills" star, is returning back to MTV this month, for a new reality show that follows her "Entrepreneurial Life" (I say that while biting my tongue). You always go back to what you are "good" at... right?

Conrad was spotted in a NYC Barnes and Nobles recently, promoting her third novel, Sugar and Spice and her "fashion" guide, Style.

Though she may not be my favorite designer, writer and whatever else she does. She did catch my attention in this flattering and girly lace number by Marchesa.

What do you think? Does LC belong on this weeks 'HIT-List?' or should she bare a bikini and frolic on the beaches of OC?

Courtney LOVE it!

I can't remember a time (pre and post Kurt Cobain) that Courtney Love herself, has ever looked THIS polished and ummm sober??? Come to think about it... I really can't!

Yes, Courtney arrived not in her normal (I say that loosely) but typical rocker ensemble, to the red carpet premiere of "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" on Monday, September 20th, in New York City.

She turned MANY heads (even double takes) in her form fitting, sexy, red Calvin Klein gown, simple jewelry and black clutch. She not only looked beautifully dressed, but she also arrived with a sophisticated 1 TONE hair color and simple red, but statement making, lips.

See Lindsey, if the Queen of Hot Messes can clean up... so can you.

Meat: No Longer Just to Eat

Last night (Sunday, September 12th, 2010) at the MTV VMA's at the Nokia Center in Downtown Los Angeles, Lady Gaga not only turned heads in her 3 dress changes but she also had people holding their noses with her final dress choice.

Her first gown was a romantic dress and head piece from the late designer, Alexander McQueen's final collection, her second was a custom made architecturally built Giorgio Armani gown and her third was a PETA No-No!

Designer Franc Fernandez, not only dressed the Pop Queen in slabs of raw meat, but he also accessorized her with matching boots, hat and purse!!

The designer has yet to comment on his direction but Gaga freely commented on the Ellen DeGeneres show, shortly after the VMA's, stating that she wore the dress (similar to one she wore on the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan), to make a statement.

"It's certainly no disrespect to anyone that's vegan or vegetarian," Gaga responded. "As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening, it's 'If we don't stand up for what we believe in, we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're gonna have as much rights as the meat on our bones."

DeGeneres didn't seem to buy the explanation, so she presented Gaga with an alternative outfit, a vegetable bikini and skirt made of corn husks.

Cher, who awarded Gaga with the final trophy and even famously held Gaga's "meat purse" on stage twitted about the getup. ""The way it was cut & fitted to her body was AMAZING ! Meat purse was genius ! As Art piece it was astonishing! No moral Judgment!"

What do you think? Was this outfit appropriate? Even for GAGA?

Emmazing at the Emmys!

I may be a day or 2 late (Fashion Bloggers usually have this list up within 30 minutes of the Red Carpet arrivals) but it's never TOO LATE to give in my 2 cents!

The Emmy Awards arrivals, to me, is more intense than who won what award (honest truth). As a devoted Fashion Expert, I don't really care to watch who won the 'Best Supporting Actor in a 10 minute walk on scene'.

This year at the Emmys (Sunday August 29th at Nokia Live), the bling was not left unnoticed. Jewelery didn't take center stage on the wrists of the talented individuals, but instead the crystals were oozing from the Stars' hair down to their feet.

Here is my list on the Best and Worst Dressed of the evening.

The HIT-List Best Dressed

Claire Danes

Claire dazzled the Red Carpet in class with a beautiful champagne Armani Prive gown covered in Swarovski Crystals. She won an Emmy for her role as Temple Grandin in the HBO production 'Temple Grandin.'

She looked flawless, and the color complimented her skin and sun kissed hair. She took the right approach by skipping out on the jewelery, as to not overdo and clash with her dress.

January Jones

I'm probably going to get a lot of criticism for this choice, but I absolutely loved it! This was an incredible color and cut for this Ms. Jones.

The adorable Mad-Men star did not disappoint me on the carpet. This electric-blue, avant garde Versace number was just the right hit. I loved the simplicity in her hair and minimal jewelery choice. However, I would have opted for a nude pair of pumps verses her black, bold version.

Lea Michele

This 24 year old Glee starlet, looked RADIANT in this navy, curve hugging mermaid Oscar de La Renta gown.

Though she didn't nab an award, she definitely represented the cast very well.

Best ALMOST Dressed Winner

Kim Kardashian

I SOOOO wanted to put Ms. Kardashian on the Best Dressed list but, I am a bit skeptical on her dress.

She is so full on top, that I feel the heaviness of her white Marchessa goddess gown wasn't the best choice. The dress is divine and the color looks flawless on her, but I do wish she chose another gown. Her Lorraine Schwartz cuff and her classy hair and make up do save her in this look.

Now for the LIST you've been waiting for...

The BLACK-List

Anna Paquin

First, let me congratulate Anna on her marriage (she wed True Blood co-star, Stephen Moyer, last week), this petite newly wed took a whole new approach on the red carpet.

She wore a unflattering gold armor-esque gown, by late designer Alexander McQueen.

I hate to put such a brilliant designer on this list but the satin number and harsh black shoes just didn't cut it. The star herself looks a bit miserable in this Matador inspired gown.

Christina Hendricks

Sex pot Christina Hendricks is always lovely, but this lavender Zac Posen gown is not. The pale color against her pale skin just washes her out. On top of that her red hair just clashes with the lavender feathered sleeved dress.

This dress doesn't help her curvy body at all. Please stick to your tight and fitted Mad Men costumes Christina, we love that look on you.

Tina Fey

Tina Fey's isn't always on the best dressed list but at least she has a sense of humor... right?

Once again I am putting an incredible designer on the Black-List, I should be ashamed. But, this look just doesn't make sense.

She worse a fitted (I give her that) Oscar de La Renta two-tone gown that should have stayed in hiding. The fit is incredible and the print is okay but black tulle on top of a white satin dress? No thank you Tina.

Machete or Not?

Jessica Alba looked radiant (as always) last night, Wednesday August 25th, at the LA Premiere of Machete.

Her black and metallic gold and chevron-print Balmain mini and incredible peep-toe Louboutin booties were a definite A+. Not only on the red carpet but also as today's "The HIT-List" winner.

Her subtle and sexy tousled locks and simple but statement making jewelery were just the right looks to finish the outfit.

Ms. Alba is definitely "ONE HOT MAMA!"

What do you think? Did Jessica Alba deserve the Best Dressed "HIT-List" award?

Not One but Drew?!

Repeat offender or Red Carpet Rebound? Drew Barrymore who last week "tried" to conquer 4 trends, did well this week at her Los Angeles premiere, with 2 of the 4 trends in a whole new (perfect) way.

She walked the red carpet with grace in a beautiful Catherine Malandrino gown, the same, but paired well, studded Balmain belt, as well as the same, but on point, Yves St. Laurent "Trib Two" platform pumps.

This time she killed it with a beautifully done dewy and natural look in her makeup and the ombré highlighted hair looked flawless in this soft [brushed] version of last weeks look.

This image of Drew definitely deserves to win this weeks
"HIT-List"

Miss Universe? OR Miss Out of This World?

Miss Universe is essentially about who represents they're country in the most glamorous way, with, of course the best answers. It is an annual international beauty contest that is one of the most publicized and viewed contests in the world. This year they totaled over 600 million viewers.
I don't watch this pageants for a specific "look" and I don't root for one because I'm fond of where she is from. I look at poise, style, confidence, classiness and of course what they wore.

For one portion of the contest, the contestants of the Miss Universe Pageant were intended to celebrate the heritage of their country (from which they represent).
These girls obviously took an "avant-garde" interpretation of the diversity and symbolization of their countries in a whole new direction. Either that or each contestant teamed up with a contestant on Project Runway and Hair Battle Spectacular and created a one of a kind look inspired by Lady Gaga.

I have chosen 10 Looks to be on this month's "BLACK-List!"

What do you think of these looks? Do they represent the countries correctly or did they not?

FNO = Fabulous Number One

Not only does FNO stand for my version of Chanel's (should be) tagline, but it ACTUALLY stands for Fashion's Night Out. New York is not only celebrating the anticipated FNO on September 10th but also the re-opening of Chanel's Peter Marino renovated SoHo store.

How else can you celebrate such a buzz, without launching a limited edition series of nail lacquers, that have been made to be "universally flattering for all skin tones"?

Introducing to the web, "Les Khakis de Chanel" polishes masterminded by Chanel Beauté creative head, Peter Philips.

The 3 polishes come in "Khaki Brun, an earthy gray-brown; Khaki Rose, a muted, dusty terra-cotta and Khaki Vert, a mossy green. The colors will be sold separately and available at select Chanel boutiques nationwide and select department stores.

Drew Barry-more or less?

Drew Barrymore, the forever wild child and risk taker took a few "trendy" risks last night, Thursday August 19th, 2010 at her and beau, Justin Long's London premiere of Going the Distance.

She walked the red carpet, in not 1 BUT 4 trendy looks for this season.

Barrymore wore a beautiful and figure flattering, olive green Alexander McQueen dress with Trend #1 a Studded Balmain belt, paired with Trend #2, Nude and suede, "trib two" YSL platforms.

The look from the neck down was a thumbs up. However Trend #3, the ombré highlights (the illusion of hair fading from dark to light), made famous by The City's, Whitney Port was not so "attractive" with her crimp-y and partially braided hair style, making that Trend #4.

Drew did stay close to home, with her signature raspberry lips, which added just the right touch to her effortlessly made, "Welcome Fall" look.
I love her fearlessness, but I don't know if combining trends was the best idea. What do you think? Does this look belong on the HIT-List or the BLACK-List?

The film opens in theaters September 3, 2010.
